Meghwal case hearing postponed to November

August 21, 2014 02:22 am | Updated May 23, 2016 06:38 pm IST - JAIPUR:

The District and Sessions Court on Wednesday postponed till November 12 the hearing in the rape case involving Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Nihal Chand Meghwal.

The case was postponed as the Sriganganar Police told the court that the notice could not be served on Mr Meghwal.

The court had on June 13 issued notice to Mr Meghwal and 11 others in connection with a case in which a woman had alleged that she was raped by Mr Meghwal and others in 2011 after she was reportedly drugged by her husband who had political ambitious.

Though the police had cleared Mr Meghwal of the charge, the victim had filed a review petition before the court earlier this year which was accepted.

Meanwhile, several women groups and civil society organisations held a demonstration outside the court to demand justice for the victim. They alleged that the victim's husband had used her to achieve his political ambitious and alleged that the police had watered down the charges.
