In a move that would ensure regular and fixed payment to the employees, the daily wage workers of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation has been put on contract basis.

All the 89 daily-wage employees, working in MTDC office, hotels and tourist sites, have been put on contract through an order issued by MTDC last week, official sources said.

The period of contract would be decided by the unit heads, assuring the workers of a job for the stipulated period, sources said.

Earlier, the daily-wage workers had to take breaks, resulting in loss of wages for at least three days in a month.

With the contract system, they would be paid fixed monthly salaries at the same rate.

The workers can also avail 12 days of compensatory leave annually.
