The India chapter of the South Asia Media Commission has condemned the Tripura government for ‘failure to maintain order’ and ‘insensitivity’ after the murder of three staffers of the Agartala-based Bengali daily, Ganadoot Patrika, in their office on Sunday afternoon.

In a statement, the commission pointed out that in its first reaction, the state government had not expressed any ‘concern’ or ‘resolve to apprehend the criminals’, and instead the issue had got mired in ‘petty politicking’. Instead, the government must ‘initiate a thorough inquiry, take precautions to prevent such incidents, and pay compensation to the victims of violence’.
