Medha’s fast enters fifth day

April 09, 2013 12:50 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:42 am IST - MUMBAI:

Social activist Medha Patkar’s indefinite fast to protest evictions in the Golibar area, even after Union Housing Minister Ajay Maken’s order to stop demolitions in Mumbai, entered the fifth day on Monday.

Another activist Madhuri Shivkar has been on indefinite fast with her since April 6, accompanied by community leaders who are on a relay fast. A statement said Mumbai’s Slum Rehabilitation Scheme was marred by corruption, government indifference and builders’ autocracy, injustice and atrocities.

Ms. Patkar and the others are demanding that work on the six Slum Rehabilitation Authority projects be stopped till the inquiry was completed.
