Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati was “grounded” by the Akhilesh Yadav government on Tuesday — she was denied permission to fly on a helicopter to Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan, venue of her party’s rally.

A helipad was built adjacent to the venue when she was the Chief Minister.

Later, a livid Ms. Mayawati told the rallyists that a high-level inquiry would be instituted against those who denied her permission to travel on a helicopter, if a BSP government is formed in the State. “ Mulayam Singh and his son would be unable to save them,” she said adding people coming to the rally had to face many prob-lems.“Despite the obstacles put by the government, about 10 lakh people thronged the rally,” she said. But contrary to her claim, the numbers were less.
