Mary Kom warned for supporting Congress candidate Ajay Maken

The five times world champion in boxing Mary Kom who is a Police Superintendent in Manipur was warned for supporting Ajay Maken who is contesting the forthcoming elections as a Congress candidate.

In a letter sent to Mary Kom through the chief electoral officer, Manipur Akshay Rout, director general of the Election Commission of India, pointed out that when Ms. Kom was engaged as a national icon for promoting voter participation it was explained to her that she should desist from supporting or associating with any candidate or affiliating to any political party.

The Director General said that Ms. Kom had posted a Youtube video supporting the Congress candidate. Later this message was broadcast in some radio channels. The letter which was sent on Wednesday had given Ms. Kom a chance to clarify her position. She was asked to desist from such activities in future.
