Armed Maoists burnt the house of a BJP leader among several others and looted valuables worth Rs 50 lakh in Imamganj area here early today, police said.

According to the police, Maoists held a kangaroo court that passed an order for “attachment of properties” of Dhanraj Sharma, BJP’s Gaya district vice-president and a close aide of the Bihar Assembly Speaker U N Choudhury, and eight others at Kotiya village for working against them.

Over 400 ultras surrounded the village and set on fire the house of Sharma and others besides looting jewellery and other valuables, according to the FIR lodged by villagers.

They also took away a tractor and four motorcycles.

This is first work of violence committed by the Maoists after the Election Commission announced a six-phase assembly poll in Bihar from October 21.
