Two persons, believed to be supporters of the CPI(M), have been killed by Maoists at Belpahari in West Midnapore district, taking the number of supporters of the party killed in the area to 9 over the last week.

Manik Mandi and Ashok Mandi, residents of Tarafena village in the Belpahari police station area, were killed by the ultras on Saturday night, the police said.

According to eye witnesses, the duo were at home when the Maoists dragged them out of their houses and slit their throats before shooting them.

Manik was an active member of the Gana Prtirodh Committee, a CPI(M) mass organisation formed to counter People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities.
