Continuing their offensive against security forces in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, the Maoists killed auxiliary constable Bira Basant in Bijapur district on Wednesday.

Bira Basant became the 14th policeman to be killed in last four days in Bastar.

His body was found on Gangaloor-Bijapur road on Wednesday morning with Maoists’ pamphlets strewn around.

Maoists stopped a bus on Awapalli–Bijapur road on April seven and abducted Basant while he was on his way to visit his family in Madded village.

He is survived by 14-month-old daughter, wife and 70-year-old mother.

Hundreds of villagers from Bijapur district had carried out a “silent march” against his abduction and had demanded that their “tribal brother be released”.
