The CPI (Maoist) has issued a "travel advisory" to government employees and journalists touring Chhattisgarh.

The rebels have requested government school teachers and journalists to refrain from travelling in police vehicles or with the police. The appeal "to avoid company of the police" was made in a two-page press statement issued on Monday by Gudsa Usendi, the new spokesperson of the party in Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee. "Please do not use [official] police vehicles or even the [private] vehicles used by the police," the spokesperson said.

"We will also request car owners not to give them [vehicles] to the police on rent and refrain from transporting security forces in conflict areas," the statement added.

The rebels claimed that the police "used the ambulance, Sanjivani [108], by force", which led to the death of the civilian driving the vehicle. The party also apologised for killing poll officers on April 12 in Ketunlar, two days after peaceful elections.
