Maoists called off on Tuesday their bandh in Bihar and Jharkhand to protest against the arrest of two members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) by the Bihar police.
Maoist polit buro member Kishanji claimed that Purnendu Mukherjee alias Anilji, polit buro member of the CPI (Maoist), and Kartik, were arrested from near the Patna junction while boarding a train on August 18, but were not produced in court.
A 48-hour bandh was called in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa, and Chhattisgarh beginning on August 24, and it was declared that it would continue indefinitely until the arrested Maoists were produced in court.
In a press statement issued through short message service, Kishanji stated that the indefinite bandh was called off after Anilji and Kartik were produced in a court at Ranchi by the Jharkhand police on Tuesday.
