Maoists blew up two vacant school buildings in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, police said on Tuesday.

Separate groups of Maoists went to a middle school at Newari village and a primary school at Bhargaon village last night, packed explosives there before triggering the damage, they said adding that there were, however, no reports of any casualty in the twin incidents.

Elections in Latehar district will be held in the fifth and final phase on December 18.

Maoists have a track record of blowing up schools to prevent security personnel from taking shelter in the buildings during anti-naxal operations.
