Maoists attack CRPF, police in Gadchiroli

Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel came under fire from Maoists in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Sunday.

Police said the incident occurred in the Kumargunda forests near Bhamaragad during a joint search operation by a team of the Gadchiroli police and the CRPF.

Maoists fired indiscriminately, but fled the spot when the fire was returned.An AK-47 with 12 bullets, a wireless device and a detonator were recovered from the site.

There was no report of any casualty from either side, according to a statement issued by the Superintendent of Police of Gadchiroli.

Maoists are observing a ‘martyr week’ from July 28 to August 3.

After Sunday’s incident, search operations have been intensified, police said.
