Maoist killed in raid in West Bengal

A Maoist was killed when the joint forces raided a camp of an ultra leader in a jungle in West Midnapore district in the early hours today.

On a tip off by locals that a Maoist squad of ultra leader Bikash was camping in the jungle, the joint forces and police led by the CoBra personnel surrounded the camp at around 2:30 am, police said.

The Maoists fired at the joint forces, which retaliated with the encounter continuing till 5:00 am.

After the firing stopped, the joint forces moved into the camp and found the body of the Maoist.

They seized two .303 rifles, a stengun, a licensed gun, a landmine, detonators and wires.

Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma termed the operation as a great success.
