A hard-core Maoist involved in the blowing up of tracks causing a train to derail leading to the death of two passengers last November, was arrested in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.

Marshal Topno, one of those involved in blowing up of rail tracks resulting in derailment of several compartments of the 322 up Tata-Bilaspur passenger on November 19 was arrested during a combing operation in Maoist-hit Posaita area in West Singhbhum district, Superintendent of Police, Akhilesh Kumar Jha said.

Three others escaped, he said.

Firearms, five can-bombs and a motorcycle were seized from him.

Asked whether the ongoing combing operation was a part of ‘Operation Green Hunt’, Mr. Jha said it was a regular process to flush out extremists and was continuing since he took charge of the district last year.
