A 22-year-old Manipuri youth was attacked allegedly by a group of unidentified men who stabbed him and robbed him off his mobile phone in South Delhi’s Mehrauli in the early hours of Tuesday.
No arrests have been made so far, but the police have ruled out the possibility of the incident being a hate crime. According to the police, 22-year-old Ksupsikren has not told them anything about being subjected to racist comments.
Ksupsikren was returning from office when the incident took place. A group of men surrounded him as he reached close to his house in Paryavaran Vihar here.
“They assaulted him and stabbed him in his stomach. After that they took his mobile phone and fled the spot. A passerby spotted Ksupsikren and called up the police control room,” a police officer said. The victim was taken to the nearby Saket City Hospital. Hospital authorities said he was brought in around 4 a.m. with a stab wound in the lower chest area that extended till the abdomen.
The patient had to undergo emergency abdominal surgery and is reported to be out of danger. His vital parameters are stable and he continues to be remain under intensive care monitoring.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Mehrauli police station. Police sources said nearly a dozen suspects have been picked up for questioning and raids are being conducted at some more locations. Four juveniles have also been apprehended.
The incident comes two days after two young men from Manipur were attacked with rods and sticks by a group in South-East Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar.
Including the latest case, as many as five major cases of crimes against Northeast residents have been reported in the Capital.
