Manipur villagers protest against lack of potable water

January 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 11:05 am IST - IMPHAL:

Villagers of Heirok Part II in Thoubal district dismantled water pipes on Thursday, much to the chagrin and embarrassment of Minister Okendro Moirangthem, the local Congress MLA and Hemochandra Irengbam, Minister of Public Health Engineering which supplies treated water to the people.

The villagers told reporters that for the past 15 years they have not got a single drop of potable water from the supply system in the village. They have to depend on private ponds while a few rich families can afford bottled water. They had submitted several representations to Mr. Moirangthem and Mr. Irengbam and the high officials of the PHE department to supply them treated water, but to no avail.
