The Manipur government has decided to open an all-women police station in each of the nine districts in the State. Sources told The Hindu that this to enable police to curb the increasing crime against women. Of late there has been an uptrend in crimes like rapes, murders and other forms of inhuman tortures of women.

The government will appoint 270 policewomen for these proposed police stations which will have a strength of 30 policewomen in each police station consisting of one inspector, two sub inspectors, two assistant sub inspectors, four head constables and 21 constables. The construction work for setting up of these police stations in most of the districts is nearing completion. Home Minister Gaikhangam Gangmei feels that this will go a long way in the protection of women.
