Nara Moirangthem, the state secretary of the CPI who is the common candidate of ten non-Congress and non-BJP parties said on Sunday that there will be social unrest in the state if the chasm between the haves and the have nots is not bridged. He said that the electioneering works of the ten parties shall begin from March 1 in all the nine districts. The electioneering which will have house to house campaign will continue for one month.
Speaking in a political convention on Sunday, he said that the ten parties shall fight the elections on the local issues. He flayed the two Congress MPs for allegedly remaining silent in the Lok sabha while Manipur is burning. Contending that the UPA government has failed to deliver the goods to the people, he said that there is resentment all around. "There is rampant corruption and unemployment is increasing. It is no wonder that there are burgeoning armed movements in the state, he said.
The ten parties had already announced the name of Mr. Moirangthem for the general Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat. However, a formal announcement is yet to be made for the reserved Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat. Sources said that a former professor of the Manipur University Gangumei Kamei who had been a minister is likely to become the common candidate.
