Congress MLA Loken Nameirakpam and his family members escaped unhurt when his house in Imphal on Wednesday when suspected militants triggered a blast near his house using a remote control device. However, the building was damaged. This is the second bomb attack against the former minister in two years.

Sources said that there is no monetary demand from any insurgent group. Some sections suspect that there may be a political motive behind the blasts. A large number of women staged a sit in protest in the locality condemning the bomb attack on Wednesday. They displayed placards condemning the bomb attack.

So far there has been no claim from any underground organisation. The MLA gets armed paramilitary escorts.
