Manipur is in for yet another spell of blockade. After a three-month protest ended on December 1, 2011 to facilitate the visit of Prime Minister Manmohon Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the State is now facing an “indefinite blockade” along its only lifelines, National Highways 39 and 53, from Saturday.
It will be imposed by the United Tribal Liberation Army, a militant outfit, to protest the arrest and detention of a cadre by personnel of 22 Assam Rifles and Imphal East commandos on March 13 in a village along the border between the two States, UTLA chairman S.K. Thadou told journalists.
Such arrests were reported from other parts of the State also, he said.
