The Manipur unit BJP is overjoyed by the increasing tempo of joining of several prominent politicians into the party. On Saturday Nimaichand Luwang, the former president of the Manipur People’s Party along with nine associates joined the BJP. State unit president Chaoba Thounaojam and the North East in charge P.B. Acharya welcomed the new members in the party office.

Mr. Thounaojam said that in June 2001 the BJP government at the centre committed a mistake costing 18 lives in Manipur when the ceasefire with the NSCN(IM) was extended on June 14, 2001 “without territorial limits”. The government had tendered an apology to the people and withdrew the offending clause in the ceasefire agreement.

He said that the Congress government in Manipur led by Okram Ibobi Singh does not have the moral courage to tender such apologies. He said that the Congress government had gifted Kavo valley to Myanmar shortly after independence. Now a contentious border fence was erected along Manipur-Myanmar border deep inside the territory of Manipur. The proposed fence will pass through even the wildlife sanctuary at Lokchao. He distributed documents to show that Mr. Ibobi had given his approval to the construction of the fence.

Mr. Thounaojam has been saying that if the BJP comes to power at the centre the leaders of the Congress ministry in Manipur will be booked for corruption.
