Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar can arguably be dubbed ‘the cleanest and poorest’ chief minister in the country with personal property, movable and immovable, valued at less than Rs 2.5 lakh.
According to the affidavit submitted by the 64-year-old Sarkar during filing of nomination in Dhanpur constituency on Thursday for the coming assembly elections, he had Rs. 1080 cash in hand and his bank balance stood at Rs. 9720.
The CPI(M) leader is aiming for a fourth consecutive term in the northeastern state.
He inherited a home of 432 sq. ft with a tin-shed house from his deceased mother Anjali Sarkar whose present market value was Rs 2,20,000.
However, his wife Panchali Bhattacharya who is a retired officer of the Central government has a cash fixed deposit of Rs 23,58,380 and jewellery of 20 gm of gold, the present market value of which is Rs 72,000. She has cash of Rs 22,015 in hand.
Her family sources said she had got the money as her retirement benefit.
The couple has no movable property and the total value of immovable property and cash is Rs. 24,52,395.
A state Committee member of the ruling CPI(M), Haripada Das, who looks after the accounts of the party said, like other party members, Mr. Sarkar donates his full salary and subsidiary allowances to the party and instead the party pays him Rs. 5000 as subsistence allowances.
According to official sources, the Chief Minister’s monthly salary is Rs 9,200 which, perhaps is the lowest in the country. When contacted, State Party Secretary Bijan Dhar said, “I can only say that he has no leaning for increasing his own personal property. He has dedicated his entire life for the party and people.”
Even his bitter critics do not blame him for any kind of corruptions.

It is really wonderful to know that the honourable chief minister of tirupura, Mr.Manik Sarkar of CPI (M) is arguiably the cleanest chief minister in the country. Now a days we hear lot of corruption cases in the states as well as central level pertaining to top and medium political leaders, bureocrats and corprate big wigs. But true to the saying in tamil "NALLAR ORUVAR ULARE, ADHAN PORUTTU PEIYUM MAZHAI". (IF EVEN ONE PERSON IS GOOD AND HONEST IN THIS SOCIETY, THE RAIN GOD WILL OPEN HIS EYES AND THE RAIN WILL BE POURED TO HELP ALL BEINGS). Unfortunately, the media houses in this country, supposedly controlled by corporates, connected with one or other political parties, will not bring these kind of good news to the people.
It is wonderful to read about people who know what the meaning of religion is.

Good personal attributes of the CM do not make up for a redundant communist
philosophy.What is the state of Tripura today? Is it better or worse off than when he took
over as CM?It is easy to be swayed by such articles. How he has improved the state is the
yardstick by which he should be measured.
If this is really true we appreciate the Man, but also tell me about his capacities to govern and empathise with people. The Hindu also deserves a pat for publishing an article. In Tamilnadu we have an ex-chiefminister who has donated his own house to the people.

Mr. Sarkar's brethren in other states, what are you waiting for, a ripe opportunity for you to capitalize on to something Mr.Sarkar is wasting. Pack your empty suitcases and gunny bags to fill, head for Tripura.

We got many honest leaders and even party members in CPI(M) in India but present corporate media and most of the Indians are not appreciating them. Thank to Hindu supporting honest people.

This is in striking contrast to the high-style living of our Netajis occupying seats of power in Delhi and some States who think that they and their siblings have a virtual monopoly to rule over under the pretext of 'serving' the nation. Such self-serving looters will be shown the door by the electorate in the 2014 general elections is written on the wall.
Left front had a lot of tall and honest leaders such as Nripen Chakraborty(Tripura), EMS Namboodiripad(Kerala),Satyapal dang(Punjab) and also few others. Alas today there are few such people in politics. The only person who comes to my mind now is our Defence Minister A.K. Antony who is reputed to be a very simple and honest man.

Kamaraj and Kakkan are also to be remembered for their simplicity and for their corrupt-free lives.

India needs only such honest and simple CMs and central ministers. He
surely is not the only one in the CPI(M). There are many like him in the
Left front.Despite various temperamental drawbacks, Mamata Banerjee is
also a CM with a simple lifestyle. Only when the entire political class
learns to emulate these shining examples, India can be cured of its
economic illness.

I thought that such leaders have once been there in India for some years
after Independence. I wonder how people can be so selfless even now when
we see most of the political leaders amassing wealth enough for two or
three generations to come.
