Man shot dead in front of Kolkata Metro station

For the first time in the history of Metro Railway here, a person was shot dead in front of the newly-opened Kazi Nazrul station in the city’s southern fringe on Sunday evening.

The police said Surinder Bharati, a stone dealer, was shot by another stone dealer Pankaj Lala from close range after an altercation.

Mr. Bharati, who was standing with his maternal uncle, was pushed inside the station premises and shot at. Local people caught Lala and handed him over to the police. A person accompanying him fled.

Mr. Bharati was declared brought dead at a private nursing home.

The police said Lala and Bharati, both hailing from same village in Jharkhand, had not only business rivalry, but also family dispute which was the trigger for the murder.
