Suspecting his wife’s character, a man hacked both her hands at Khallikote in Ganjam district of Odisha on Friday. He also tried to smash her head with a traditional grinding stone.

The victim, identified as Sasmita Gouda, 38, was first admitted to the Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati medical college and hospital in Berhampur.

She was later transferred to the Shri Ramachandra Bhanj medical college and hospital in Cuttack. The husband, Ramkrushna Gouda, 42, initially escaped from the spot. He later surrendered at the Khallikote police station on Friday night.

Police sources said Gouda has confessed to his crime.

The couple got married nine years ago. They have an eight-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl.
