A case of mistaken identity turned into a nightmare for 25-year old student after a man attacked her with a chopper, mistaking her for his wife. The incident happened in the city’s crowded Dadar area at 9 a.m. Police have arrested Vijay Sangelkar (35). The student is undergoing treatment at a city hospital and is out of danger.

“Vijay is a resident of Sawantwadi. He got married in 2007 and used to have continuous fights with his wife. He came to Mumbai on Sunday with an intention to kill his wife who was here to visit her parents. Today [Monday] morning, he went to Dadar station, carrying a chopper in his bag. The victim, who had worn a scarf around her head, was walking from Dadar station towards the bus stop when the accused mistook her for his wife and attacked her grievously with a chopper,” Datta Karale, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV), said.
