West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not attend Wednesday’s meeting on internal security in New Delhi, according to sources in the State Secretariat. This would be the second consecutive time Ms. Banerjee will be skipping such a meeting for CMs. She had not participated in the April 16, 2012 meet too. According to the sources, Finance Minister Amit Mitra will represent the State in her absence.
Ever since September 2012, when the Trinamool Congress withdrew its support to the UPA government, Ms. Banerjee has stepped up her criticism of the Centre.
She had dared the Centre to impose President’s Rule in the State under Article 356 of the Constitution at a recent election rally.
She had also accused the Centre of using the CBI to issue threats to her party.
