West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday assured monetary support and jobs for the family members of the 20-year-old girl from Kamduni village, who was allegedly gangraped and killed on June 7.
The family, which met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat, urged her to ensure the trial be conducted in a fast track court and the perpetrators of the crime were punished at the earliest.
“The State government is ready to provide jobs and monetary help to the family, if the family members are willing,” Minister for Food and Supplies Jyotipriya Mullick, who accompanied the villagers, told The Hindu .
It has also been directed by the Chief Minister to provide foodgrains at a reduced price in Kamduni village and we have started distributing it, Mr. Mullick, who represents the North 24 Parganas district, said.
“The wife of uncle of the victim, who died recently, has agreed to accept a job ,” Mr. Mullick said, adding that the government was taking all steps to provide justice to the bereaved family members.
The brutal incident triggered massive protests across the State and turned out to be a rallying point for people to highlight atrocities on women.
This is the third interaction between the family members of the victim and the Chief Minister. Seven villagers including the two brothers of the victim met Ms. Banerjee in the first week of August at the Secretariat.
