The Ganga and five other rivers are still flowing above danger mark in many parts of Bihar, triggering a flood-like situation in the districts situated along the banks of the river, while in Uttar Pradesh water level of major rivers has crossed the red mark at several places in the State.
At least 22 persons have been killed while 23.71 lakh people affected in the Bihar floods with many areas, especially the riverine belt of 12 districts was badly reeling under water in the State.
The floods caused by a spate in rivers Ganga, Sone, Punpun, Burhi Gandak, Ghaghra and Kosi have affected 23.71 lakh people in 1,115 villages under 362 panchayats in 12 districts of the state, a Disaster Management Department statement said.
Bhojpur worst hit Bhojpur district, which accounted for the maximum number of deaths, reported 12 deaths followed by Vaishali (6), Bhagalpur (2) and one each in Buxar and Lakhisarai district.
The districts witnessing flood-like situation in Bihar included — Patna, Vaishali, Buxar, Bhojpur, Saran, Begusarai, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Munger, Bhagalpur and Katihar — a Disaster Management Department statement said.
Ganga and five other rivers were flowing above danger mark in Patna, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Katihar, Siwan, Bhojpur and Buxar districts of Bihar.
Ganga was flowing above danger mark at six places in Digha ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Hathidah in Patna, Bhagalpur and Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district, and in certain points of Munger district and Buxar district, it said.
Ganga, Yamuna, Sharda and Ken are flowing above the danger mark in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Centre Water Commission (CWC), Ganga is flowing above the danger mark at Fafamau and Chatnag in Allahabad, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia, while Yamuna is flowing above red mark at Chillaghat (Banda), Hamirpur and Naini (Allahabad).
Ken river is flowing above the danger mark at Banda while Sharda has crossed the danger mark at Palliakalan (Kheri).
Heavy rainfall warning The IMD’s Bhopal Centre director Anupam Kashyapi said heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Satna, Umaria, Katni, Shahdol, Rajgarh, Guna and Agar-Malwa districts in the next 24 hours.
