Maiden CPI(M) central committee meeting in Agartala on December 13

October 09, 2013 07:00 pm | Updated 07:00 pm IST - Agartala:

CPI(M) has announced dates of the maiden meeting of its central committee in Agartala. The party’s state secretary Bijan Dhar informed that the three-day conclave will begin on December 13.

Mr. Dhar stated the last meeting of the committee selected Agartala as its next venue and the politburo in its recently-held meeting approved the decision. The party will organise an open rally in Agartala on December 15.

Agartala has been chosen for the meeting 35 years after the CPI(M)-led left front first came to power in Tripura. Sources said the State leaders had on different times wished to hold the politburo and the central committee meeting in the left bastion of northeast India, but no decision was taken earlier.

The selection of Agartala for the maiden central committee meeting assumes significance as Tripura remains the only left-ruled State in India. Moreover, there has not been any erosion of support base in the State as reflected in all levels of elections.

The public rally on December 15 will be addressed by senior central leaders like general secretary Prakash Karat. The programmes have been arranged ahead of the Lok Sabha poll and political issues are likely to dominate the central committee meeting.
