The swine flu toll in Maharashtra has soared to 112 with 34 persons succumbing to the H1N1 virus over the past week.
The State is reeling from the swine flu onslaught with no signs of the spread of the H1N1virus ebbing despite the onset on summer. The total number of swine flu infected cases has ratcheted to more than 1200 since January, informed State Health officials.
On Wednesday alone, 166 fresh cases were recorded across the State with nine people succumbing to the virus.
Pune has recorded the maximum number of H1N1 afflicted patients since January at 397 cases, followed by Mumbai and Nagpur, which has registered the maximum deaths so far. More than a lakh people had been screened since the beginning of the year and 9,700 persons suspected of swine flu were administered oseltamivir (Tamiflu) dosages.
Meanwhile, health authorities allayed public fears of Tamiflu shortages, stating that the State had adequate reserves of the drug and that the Central government, that had run out of stock, had asked States to submit their requisitions.
