Maharashtra PWD engineers gave contracts to kin, says BJP

BJP leader Somaiya submits list of names to ACB

May 13, 2013 02:14 am | Updated 02:14 am IST - Mumbai:

Keeping up the pressure on Maharashtra Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on Sunday demanded a probe by the Special Investigations Team (SIT) to unearth the ‘scandal’ brewing in the State Public Works Department (PWD) headed by Mr. Bhujbal.

Mr. Somaiya also submitted a fresh list of names to the Anti-Corruption Bureau that allegedly reveals some PWD engineers to have awarded the government contracts to companies promoted up by their kith and kin

The scam first broke when the ACB raided the home of a Nashik-based executive engineer Satish Chikhlikar attached to the PWD a fortnight ago. The raid yielded more than Rs. 15 crore in cash in addition to tens of crores of rupees being seized in gold, silver and jewellery items. “We have submitted a list of a dozen PWD engineers who have given contracts to their own wives, sons and daughters,” said Mr. Somaiya in a press statement.
