Maharashtra Home Minister R.R Patil on Friday assured the State Assembly that the government would bring in an ordinance to ensure that dance bars remain closed. “Dance bars are degrading to women. Our decision [to ban them] was for the betterment of women and for the young generation,” he said. The Supreme Court last month upheld the Bombay High Court's order, which quashed the government’s ban on dance bars here. But the State government is clear that it will uphold the ban despite the court order.
