Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil on Monday made it clear that the State government is firm on its decision of banning dance bars.
Replying to a question raised by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena legislature Bala Nandgaonkar, Mr. Patil said that if needed, the government would withdraw dance bar licenses issued to five-star hotels.
“At present, six 5-star hotels possess dance bar licenses. They have not used the licenses till now and are willing to give it up. We are in discussion with law experts and our legal team,” he said.
Last week, the Supreme Court upheld the Bombay High Court’s 2006 order which quashed the State’s order of banning dance bars. Mr. Patil said that the government would inform the Assembly in the next two days about the steps taken on the ruling.
