Lotus cut-outs on boats for swearing-in

October 30, 2014 12:03 am | Updated May 23, 2016 03:58 pm IST - MUMBAI:

The lotus is set to bloom in the Arabian Sea.

As part of its lavish plans for the swearing-in of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, the first from the party, the BJP will make full use of its symbol.

The BJP will float 25 giant cut-outs of lotuses, flanked by party flags, on boats in the sea just off the Wankhade Stadium, the venue for the ceremony. Another 10 lotuses will be seen floating at the Gateway of India.

The party, which has come to power in Maharashtra on its own strength for the first time, is making big plans to make the event a huge success.

The setting for the ceremony is designed by award-winning art director Nitin Desai, who promises a blend of the modern and the history.

Among the guests invited to the ceremony are Prime Minister Narendra Modi, political bigwigs, renowned industrialists and Bollywood celebrities.

Over 4000 VIP invites have been sent and the Wankhade is expected to be packed on Friday.

BJP spokesperson Atul Shah said the concept behind the lotuses was inspired by the comments of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during the BJP’s first convention in 1980, when the party was born out of the Jan Sangh. “Mr. Vajpayee had said that the lotus would bloom here and it has,” said Mr. Shah.
