A London tourist jumped out of a second-floor balcony in her Agra hotel room in a bid to escape molestation by hotel owner Sachin Chauhan in the early hours of Tuesday. He has been arrested. The girl received minor injuries in the lower limbs and hands.
This is the second incident which rocked Agra within a week after the gruesome murder of a 27-year-old woman research scholar at Dayalbagh University.
Uttar Pradesh IG (Law and Order) Raj Kumar Vishwakarma said the owner of Hotel Agra Mahal knocked at and forced his way into the tourist’s room around 3.45 a.m. He tried to molest the girl under the pretext of giving her a scalp massage and bath. She raised an alarm as he continued to misbehave and, when no help came, jumped out of the balcony. She took an autorickshaw and went to the Paryatan police station.
A case was registered against the hotel owner under Section 354A (1) of the IPC (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).
Leads in researcher killing
Meanwhile, the police have gathered crucial leads in the research scholar case, with the recovery on Tuesday of bloodstained clothes belonging to a boy, who is suspected to have committed the crime with a sharp-edged weapon in the biotechnology laboratory on Friday night.
The clothes have been sent for forensic examination. However, Mr. Vishwakarma refused to disclose wherefrom the clothes were recovered. He said evidence gathered by the forensic agencies would be disclosed once the report was available.
So far, there has been no headway despite the recovery of the researcher’s laptop from a garbage dump and mobile phone, which was found about 200 metres from the scene of crime. The police suspect that the killer discarded the phone after having removed its battery, SIM card and memory card. The laptop has been to the police cybercell.
As the research scholar was reportedly working on a project worth Rs. 1 crore, the investigating agencies have not ruled out professional rivalry as a possible motive for murder. The body was recovered on Saturday from the lab, which found locked from outside. It is suspected that the fleeing killer locked the room.
Several students and teachers of the university have been questioned.

We should change from Hindustan to Rapistan.
It is a shame to say an Indian on seeing the travel advisory and caution issued by U K to its travelers touring India.Where our country is heading for?Where the morality has gone ? Will not the police and its political masters learn lesson? Where your religious morality have gone? I do not find exact words to express my anguish on seeing such behavioral dogs. The punishment should be severe for perpetrating such crimes
India seems unsafe for women as the UPA regime focus on corruption and collaboration and not rule of law and safety of people.
Mere passing an anti rape bill is good for nothing. Govt should do some main activities to change the mind set of the youngsters .Then only we can achieve what we think.By making pledge is also not enough. Give them moral education from the childhood itself. Make our younger sisters also that they are wearing dress not to expose but to cover their body. now it has been increased at an extent by saying that they are in new generation. In ancient time women led a struggle to cover their chest with cloth. But now they trying to expose it out side by saying it is a fashion.
What apology can one make to the frightened tourist? One can only hold
one's head in shame in India now. The Police must investigate matters
swiftly and the law must not drag its feet.
The trouble is, with people at the top (and their family members and
gang-leaders) going scot-free (usually with assistance from the police
and the judiciary), the ordinary people seem to feel that they too can
get round the police / the law - if they are unlucky enough to be
caught!! Unless the top people are made examples of, no new
legislation is likely to make much difference. In India, the major
defect lies in implantation of any laws. THERE MUST BE ONE LAW FOR ALL
INDIANS, which has never been the case!!!
Unless the travel and hospitality sector and the cities/towns
considered main tourist attractions take immediate steps to protect
tourists, their industry and towns will take a hammering, and
deservedly so.
The UK travel advisory is restrained given ground realities.
It is a great shame and such criminals should be punished heavily.
The name of India is in the mud for the last few weeks not only in the
treatment of women but also for corruption and lack of discipline. This
is not the India I am proud of.
Hope the religious leaders and politicians will act now.
After the ghastly New Delhi gang-rape incident and the huge public outcry one would think our entire society would have been revolted and there would be decrease in such incidents. On the contrary, we read about more such cases(one possibility is there is greater awareness and hence greater reporting to police). But mind boggles at brazen incidents such as above and the previous one where a swiss tourist was gang raped. What goes through the mind of such men and what the society and the individual can do immediately and in the long run to change the mindsets to avoid the recurrence of such unthinkable crimes is the need of the hour. Don"t we Indians have any pride at all?
