Public transport continues to remain paralyzed for the fourth day today in Malkangiri district and certain pockets of Koraput district as the CPI (Maoist) has been celebrating the 10th formation year of its People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) from December 2-8.
While Malkangiri virtually remained cut-off from the rest of the State with both private and government run buses remaining off the roads, traffic was hit in Bandhugaon, Machkund, Onkadeli and Lamataput areas of Koraput district.
Government run buses has diverted their route via Andhra to reach Berhampur and Bhubaneswar instead of their regular route through Rayagada from Koraput, official sources said.
Nearly 100-km forested road connecting Malkangiri town with Motu, Orissa’s southernmost town bordering Andhra Pradesh, wore a deserted look, said an official adding that barring two-wheelers, no vehicle was plying beyond Kalimela.
Traffic movement in Motu, MV 79, Bhenjagwada and Podia areas has been paralyzed.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in several Maoist-infested areas and a red alert has been sounded in southern Orissa districts.
