In a major crackdown on radical Sikh organisations, the Punjab police on Wednesday night detained several leaders and activists and banned three protest marches to be held on Thursday in support of Balwant Singh Rajoana.
Sources in the police told PTI that those taken into custody included SAD (A) president Simranjit Singh Mann, SAD Panthic secretary-general Harpal Singh Cheema, SAD (Independent) president Parmjit Saholi and Youth Akali Dal (Delhi) president Gurdip Gosha.
The former secretary-general of SAD (A) Gurinder Pal Dhanola; chairman of Panthic Seva Lehar Baljit Singh Daduwal; SAD (Panthic) president Daljit Singh Bittu, SAD (Delhi) president Jaswinder Singh Balia and SAD (A) State general secretary Guru Savar Singh were among those held.
