People's miseries have increased after the Samajwadi Party came to power in Uttar Pradesh, with the government failing to curb crime and improve law and order, the Bahujan Samaj Party said on Friday.
Pointing to the incidents of crime, Leader of the Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and the BSP's State president Swamy Prasad Maurya told journalists here that a ‘goonda raj' prevailed in the State.
Criticising the government for suspending ‘thana' and ‘tehsil divas,' introduced by the former Chief Minister, Mayawati, he said police stations had been taken over by anti-social elements; there were incidents of police officials being roughed up by SP workers.
Stating that the people were compelled to go to Lucknow for getting their grievances redressed, Mr. Maurya dismissed as a sham the ‘janata durbar,' being conducted by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. It “has nothing to do with the problems faced by the people.” In fact, the government was silent on the burning issues of the ‘janata.'
He said the government's decision to distribute laptops and computer tablets to students was a “false promise” and was critical of the decision to frame new eligibility rules for unemployment allowance.
