The police have recorded the statement of a 21-year-old law intern, who has accused godman Kaushalendra Prapannacharya Falahari Maharaj of raping her at his ashram.

The woman, who hails from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, said the incident took place on August 7.

Falahari Maharaj, 70, also known as Baba, commands a strong following both in India and abroad.

The woman said she mustered the courage to report the incident after the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case.

On Friday, the police took her to the ashram to collect evidence. A large number of Baba’s followers gathered outside the ashram and raised slogans against the deployment of police.
