The 33 per cent reservation for fairer sex in the panchayats has attracted a large number of women candidates in Qaimoh and Pahloo blocks of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district to try their luck at the hustings next week.

While 71 male candidates are in the fray for 23 sarpanch seats, 274 candidates, including 82 female candidates, will fight for 160 panch seats in the Qaimoh block, an official spokesman said.

He said 31,437 voters will exercise their franchise in the block in the election which will be held on April 13.
