Over 100 people, including women and children, had a narrow escape when a massive landslide damaged 20 houses in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector, police said on Wednesday.
The landslide triggered by incessant rains came rolling down on village Chadyan, 140 km from here, around 4 pm on Tuesday, they said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Uri Naresh Jamwal, who led a rescue team to the landslide-hit village, said no one was killed or injured in the incident.
Of the 60 houses, 20 were extensively damaged and are not worth living now, the officer said.
All the affected people have been shifted to Triganbagh, half a kilometre away from the village. They have been accommodated in sheds and provided food, he said.
Deputy Commissioner (Baramulla) B. A. Shah said rescue teams have been dispatched, who would be helping the affected.
