Landmine, explosives unearthed in Orissa

A landmine, suspected to have been planted by Maoists, and some explosives were unearthed by securitymen during anti-Naxalite operations in Orissa’s Kandhamal district on Saturday.

The seizures were made during combing operation by the Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel of Orissa near Godibali Chowk under Daringibadi area, IIC of Daringibadi police station S K Gantayat said.

The landmine, planted by Maoists along a forest road, was detected with the help of sophisticated gadgets.

Besides the powerful landmine, other materials which were stumbled upon by the SOG personnel included 15 meters of wire, 10 kilograms of explosives, two detonators and two batteries, the officer said.

The anti-landmine squad of the police had since defused the landmine, Mr. Gantayat said adding combing operation in the area had been intensified to find if the ultras have planted some more landmines.
