A landmine exploded on Wednesday at Bhat More area during the bandh called by Maoist-backed People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA), while security forces recovered similar explosives in the forested areas of West Midnapore district.

Acting District Magistrate Subhanjan Das said the landmine exploded at Bhat More under Salbani police station while the landmines were found at Kalaboni forest.

However, no casualty or injury was reported.

Vehicles remained off the roads and shops were closed in the forested area of the district following the bandh call, the duration of which remained unclear.

PCPA leaders were not clear about the duration of the bandh.

Interestingly, the district administration did not have any idea of the bandh called to press for various demands, including “recovery of arms stockpiled by CPI(M)”.

Mr. Das said he had no news of any bandh today but heard that shops were closed and vehicles remained off the road.

Additional Superintendent of Police Santosh Pandey and Jhargram sub-divisional officer C Muragaon also said they had no information about the bandh.
