Key papers from Adarsh Housing Society files have gone missing from the Urban Development department, police said here on Saturday. The missing pages of a file include a note-sheet which had remarks and signatures of all the authorities who went through and signed the file, a senior police official said. This is likely to affect the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the scam.
A case of theft has been registered at the Marine Drive police station on Friday night under Sections 204 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code. “We have registered a first information report against unknown persons,” Cherring Dorje, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, told The Hindu .
Gurudatt Vajpe, a section officer of the State Urban Development department, filed the complaint saying someone stole the papers without his knowledge with the intention of hindering the probe.
According to the complaint (Case Register no. 180/10), four pages (Page numbers 15, 97, 99 and 279) in the file of approval to the Adarsh society have been missing.
The theft came to light after the CBI demanded the note-sheet missing from one of the 10 files that the Urban Development department had handed over to it. Senior officials alleged that the Urban Development department was aware of the missing pages but had not filed a complaint till the CBI demanded them.
“This will definitely affect the CBI investigation as one of the most important papers has gone missing,” a senior official said.
“We are investigating the matter and we will question all those responsible for keeping the records and maintaining the files,” Mr. Dorje said.
