The Union government is finalising interlocutors for holding talks with all sections of people in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

Answering a question at his monthly press briefing on Friday, he said their names would be announced “very early.” He refused to set any timeframe, saying, “When it is done, you will be told.”

Mr. Chidambaram said the all-party delegation's recent visit to Srinagar and Jammu on September 21 and 22 was the highlight of his Ministry's activities last month. “Upon its return, after consulting members of the delegation who were available in Delhi, I submitted a report to the Prime Minister. On September 25, the Cabinet Committee on Security considered the report and approved the eight-point plan,” he said.

The initiative included appointment of interlocutors, led by an eminent person, to begin the process of sustained dialogue with political parties, groups, students, civil society and other stakeholders.

Asked whether the interlocutors would be politicians, he said: “It cannot be disclosed now.”
