Kanchi Acharya for talks on Ayodhya

November 03, 2010 03:06 am | Updated 03:06 am IST - Ayodhya:

Sri Jayendra Saraswati of the Kanchi Mutt said on Tuesday he favoured an out-of-court settlement to the Ayodhya title suit.

“It would be better if the matter is resolved in this manner [through talks between the two communities] than going to the Supreme Court,” the Sankaracharya told journalists here.

He said he would go to Kashi on Wednesday and stay there for five days to meet different sections of people to resolve the issue.

The Sankaracharya said he had a formula, which would be acceptable to all, but refused to divulge the details, saying that making it public could create hurdles to the ongoing talks.

Asked whether the Union government wanted a resolution of the issue, he said the ruling alliance was silent because whichever way the issue went, the Centre would not be comfortable with it.

Criticising Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his statement on “saffron terrorism,” the Sankaracharya said it was wrong as both the RSS and the VHP had been doing good work.
