Renowned nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar was awarded ‘Maharashtra Bhooshan’ here by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan at the Gateway of India on Friday.

The award was given in recognition of Dr. Kakodkar’s contribution to the field of nuclear power. Mr. Chavan lauded the scientist’s role in the formulation of nuclear policy at the global level. He hoped the social work undertaken by Dr. Kakodkar would encourage more scientists.

“Radical changes needed”

Dr. Kakodkar thanked the State government and highlighted the need to bring about radical changes in the education system. He said the government should give priority to proper implementation of changed educational syllabus in the rural areas. “If we have to stay in the global competition, we need to create additional energy.
