The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday constituted a judicial commission to probe the stampede at Ratangarh in Datia district on October 13, which claimed the lives of 115 people.
The commission will be headed by retired High Court judge Rakesh Saxena and will be based in Gwalior. The commission is expected to take charge this week and submit its report within two months. Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan has promised action on the commission’s report within 15 days of its submission.
For a judicial commission report to be implemented it needs to be accepted by the Cabinet and tabled in the Assembly. The Justice S.K. Pandey report on the 2006 tragedy at the same temple has not yet been tabled. The term of the current Assembly expires on December 12, hence the report will be acted upon once the new government takes office.
