While welcoming the Supreme Court verdict on the Central Bureau of Investigation’s FIR in the disproportionate assets case against her, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Friday thanked the party supporters and her well-wishers for their “rock-solid” support during her “struggle.” she said “justice” has finally been delivered after 10 years.

Even as the former Chief Minister expressed her gratitude to the apex court and thanked counsel Harish Salve and Satish Chandra Mishra, special mention was made by her of the resilience exhibited by the BSP workers.

Talking to journalists at her residence here, she said that despite many ups and downs in the case, she and party supporters were never disturbed and never lost patience.

Ms. Mayawati, who lost power to the Samajwadi Party in the 2012 Assembly elections, said her supporters knew about the obstacles placed by the Opposition forces, who used all the tactics to unnerve her and supporters, and were determined to assist her in taking the BSP movement forward.

Ms. Mayawati invoked Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and author of the BSP movement and party founder Kanshi Ram. Referring to their contributions towards the “movement of self-respect,” she said her supporters were well aware of the fact that how well Dr. Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram faced the problems for taking the movement forward.

The BSP’s State unit slammed the “Opposition forces “ for their “anti-Dalit” mentality and assailed them for levelling baseless allegations in the Taj Heritage Corridor and disproportionate assets case with the sole intention of defaming her.

In a statement, the BSP lauded Ms. Mayawati’s contribution for the uplift of the downtrodden. It said she had “devoted her entire life to ensure self-respect for the poor and under-privileged.” Following the Supreme Court verdict, the “true picture” has been projected before the country. In the last 10 years, the Opposition forces spared no efforts to undermine Ms. Mayawati’s prestige and harm the BSP movement.

“Though the harm done to Ms. Mayawati’s prestige cannot be compensated, the relief granted by the Supreme Court after 10 years has been whole-heartedly welcomed by the party workers and well-wishers,” it said.
